This morning, you will get up early and depart from your hotel in Manila at 2:00. It is requested that you reach the entrance of Mt. Pinatubo before 7:00; otherwise, you won't be able to enter the Mt. Pinatubo area for the tour. After the Mount Pinatubo Hike Tour, you will head back to Manila.
Mount Pinatubo (1,485m) is an active stratovolcano in Luzon, Philippines. It became famous due to its eruption in 1991 after 600 years of sleep, making it the second-largest volcanic eruption of the 20th century. Mt. Pinatubo is now dormant, having left spectacular lava sand formations, and draws people to admire its natural wonder after the big disaster. Capas is the gateway to Mt. Pinatubo. From Capas to the Mount Pinatubo Base Camp, it is about 22km (45min-1hour drive). You will stop to register your names with the local authorities at the registry office at Sta. Juliana (Please note that the registration process can take some time, so please be patient). After that, you will transfer to a jeep to start your Mt. Pinatubo Tour formally.,,Your old 4×4 Jeep adventure to Mt. Pinatubo will be bumpy and dusty, but you can still find lots of fun across Crow Valley. There are oddly formed lahar towers with various shades of gray. You will marvel at the various colors on its stream waters caused by the minerals leached from the volcano. Just enjoy the road massage on the biggest field of lahar in the world. After about 1-1.5 hours ride, it is time for you to jump off the jeep to begin your hiking toward the famous Mt. Pinatubo Crater Lake. The Mt. Pinatubo Hike is about 5.5km each way with an ascent of 300 meters. The terrain is relatively flat until the last 20 minutes when you ascend to the rim of the Crater Lake.
During your Mt. Pinatubo Crater Hike, you will be greeted by imposing ash walls, herds of cattle, and the big smiles of the Aetas. The Aetas are the tribe that owns the Pinatubo Mountain, and now there are about 3,800 people living within 10km of the Pinatubo volcano. After about a 2-hour hike, you will be rewarded with the stunning crater lake with the bright turquoise waters surrounded by the volcano’s huge crater walls. The Pinatubo Crater Lake is known for its changing water color from blue-green to deep blue depending on the season. Take your time to relax while taking in magnificent views of the largest lahar canyon in the world. After lunch, it is time to head back to Manila via Clark.
If time permits, you can stop at Capas National Shrine. The shrine was dedicated on Dec7, 1991, by President Corazon Aquino. It was built to honor the brave men and women who defied the might of the invaders at Bataan during World War II. Along with this, its location is where the infamous 97-kilometer march or the Bataan Death March ended.,,Note: Generally, the Mt. Pinatubo Hike is considered a challenging route. But during the dry months (December to May) when the riverbed is dry, the 4×4 jeeps will travel further up Crow Valley to a drop-off station, from which you will walk the last 20-30 minutes on a single trail to the Crater Lake, which is very beginner-friendly when the weather is good.
